It seems as though a lot of people prefer to learn from their own experiences, rather than learning from the experiences of others - but if you consider this to be an absurd way to make your way through life, it is a great boon to you when you know the things that others lament later in life, as you can learn how to avoid these same laments yourself. A lot of older adults end up lamenting the fact that they did not spend as much time with their children as they would have liked, or that they did not enjoy their children as much as they should have; if you have children (or if you plan to someday have children), here are a few things you can do in order to evade this lament yourself! Most parents find that their children like to talk - and oftentimes, this tendency to want to talk will come with an accompanying tendency for them to hope their parents will listen; make sure you are taking the time to sit with your children and listen to them talk, and you may even find they have interesting things to say! Making an effort to take an interest in your children's "likes" is another thing in this same vein; while your children's "likes" might change all the time, it will make a big difference to them as they grow up if you engage in their "likes" alongside them. Learn how to create memories with your family that last a lifetime. When you take the time to play with your children, this will be another big thing that will make both you and your children feel like you are getting the most out of your time together, and not just when your children are little; as they get older, continue to play games with them that they enjoy, and this will leave you with plenty of memories to hold onto in the future. It is far better for you to learn from others' mistakes than to force yourself to learn from your own mistakes - and this is more true in the area of the relationship you create with your children than in any other area!
